Supplication After Every Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed his love for Mu'adh by teaching him a supplication to recite after every prayer.

Mu'adh b. Jabal reported that the Messenger of Allah caught his hand and said: By Allah, I love you, Mu'adh. I give some instruction to you. Never leave to recite this supplication after every (prescribed) prayer: "O Allah, help me in remembering You, in giving You thanks, and worshipping You well". Mu'adh willed this supplication to the narrator al-Sunabihi and al-Sunabihi to 'Abu Abd al-Rahman.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Mu’adh b. Jabal tells us about the importance of reciting a supplication after every prescribed prayer. This supplication is known as ‘Du’a al-Istiftaah’ which translates to ‘the opening invocation’ in English. It is a short prayer that asks Allah for help in remembering Him and thanking Him for His blessings as well as worshipping Him properly. This hadith shows us the love that Prophet Muhammad had for his companion Mu’adh and how he wanted to ensure that he was on the right path even after his death by teaching him this important du’a which would be beneficial throughout his life and afterlife. It also teaches us about the importance of remembrance of Allah through dhikr and gratitude through shukr along with proper ibadah or worship of Allah in order to lead a successful life here on earth as well as hereafter in Jannah or Paradise.
