Sunan Abi Dawud 1532 (Book 8, Hadith 117) #21824
The Dangers of Cursing Oneself and Others

SUMMARY: This hadith warns against cursing oneself, one's children, servants and property as it may be granted by Allah at a time when He is asked for something.

Jabir b. 'Abd Allah reported the Messenger of Allah as saying: Do not invoke curse on yourselves, and do not invoke curse on your children, and do not invoke curse on your servants, and do not invoke curse on your property, lest you happen to do it at a time when Allah is asked for something and grants your request. Abu Dawud said: This Hadith has a continuous chain of narrators, 'Ubadah bin Al-Walid bin 'Ubadah (did) met Jabir.

QUICK LESSONS:
Speak kindly towards others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against cursing ourselves, our children, our servants and our property. It is important to remember that when we ask Allah for something, He may grant us what we have asked for even if it was in the form of a curse. Therefore, it is important to be mindful of what we say and how we say it so that we do not end up regretting our words later on. We should also remember that this applies to others too - cursing someone else can have serious consequences as well. We should always strive to speak kindly and respectfully towards others no matter who they are or what their position in life might be.
