Paying Zakat on Gold Bangles

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a woman who was asked by the Prophet ﷺ if she paid zakat on her daughter's two heavy gold bangles. When she said no, he warned her that Allah may put two bangles of fire on her hands instead. She then took them off and placed them before the Prophet ﷺ saying they were for Allah and His Apostle.

'Amr bin Shu'aib on his father's authority said that his grandfather reported: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah and she was accompanied by her daughter who wore two heavy gold bangles in her hands. He said to her: Do you pay zakat on them? She said: #He then said: Are you pleased that Allah may put two bangles of fire on your hands? Thereupon she took them off and placed them before the Prophet saying: They are for Allah and His Apostle.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ، وَحُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ، - الْمَعْنَى - أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَهُمْ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً، أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَعَهَا ابْنَةٌ لَهَا وَفِي يَدِ ابْنَتِهَا مَسَكَتَانِ غَلِيظَتَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا ‏"‏ أَتُعْطِينَ زَكَاةَ هَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَتْ لاَ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَيَسُرُّكِ أَنْ يُسَوِّرَكِ اللَّهُ بِهِمَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ سِوَارَيْنِ مِنْ نَارٍ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَخَلَعَتْهُمَا فَأَلْقَتْهُمَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ وَقَالَتْ هُمَا لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلِرَسُولِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who came to the Prophet Muhammad with her daughter wearing two heavy gold bangles in her hands. The Prophet asked if she paid zakat on them and when she said no he warned her that Allah may put two bangles of fire on her hands instead as punishment for not paying zakat. Upon hearing this warning, the woman immediately took off the gold bangles and placed them before the Prophet saying they were for Allah and His Apostle. This hadith teaches us an important lesson about paying our religious obligations such as zakat which is one of five pillars of Islam; it also teaches us to be mindful of our actions because we will be held accountable for them in front of God Almighty.
