Sunan Abi Dawud 3869 (Book 29, Hadith 15) #24159
Unconcerned Actions of the Prophet (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) was not concerned with what he did, even if it was drinking an antidote or tying an amulet.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: If I drink an antidote, or tie an amulet, or compose poetry, I am the type who does not care what he does. Abu Dawud said: THis was peculiar to the Prophet , but some people have allowed to use it, ie antidote.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be careful about your actions but also be unconcerned when it comes to matters which do not go against Islamic teachings as long as they are done for good reasons such as protection and healing .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the unconcerned actions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that if he drinks an antidote or ties an amulet or composes poetry then he does not care what he does. An antidote is a medicine used to counteract a poison and amulets are objects believed to have magical powers which protect from evil forces. The Prophet ﷺ was not concerned with these actions as they were only done for protection and healing purposes and were not against Islamic teachings in any way. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful about our actions but also be unconcerned when it comes to matters which do not go against Islamic teachings as long as they are done for good reasons such as protection and healing.
