Divination is Forbidden

SUMMARY: Divination, augury from the flight of birds, taking evil omens and the practice of pressomancy are all forms of divination.

Narrated Qabisah: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Augury from the flight of birds, taking evil omens and the practice of pressomancy pertain to divination. Tarq: It is used in the sense of divination in which women threw stones'.Iyafah : It means geomancy by drawing lines.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيَّانُ، - قَالَ غَيْرُ مُسَدَّدٍ حَيَّانُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ - حَدَّثَنَا قَطَنُ بْنُ قَبِيصَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ الْعِيَافَةُ وَالطِّيَرَةُ وَالطَّرْقُ مِنَ الْجِبْتِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ الطَّرْقُ الزَّجْرُ وَالْعِيَافَةُ الْخَطُّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about divination which is forbidden in Islam. It explains that divining by looking at the flight of birds, taking evil omens and practicing pressomancy are all forms of divining which are not allowed in Islam. The hadith also mentions two other terms related to divining; Tarq which means throwing stones and 'Iyafah which means drawing lines. All these practices are considered as a form of shirk or associating partners with Allah and thus it is forbidden in Islam.
