Sahih al-Bukhari 2654 (Book 52, Hadith 18) #2540
Warning Against the Greatest Sins

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned against the greatest of sins, which are joining others in worship with Allah and being undutiful to one's parents. He also warned against giving a false witness.

Narrated Abu Bakra: The Prophet said thrice, "Should I inform you out the greatest of the great sins?" They said, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger !" He said, "To join others in worship with Allah and to be undutiful to one's parents". The Prophet then sat up after he had been reclining (on a pillow) and said, "And I warn you against giving a false witness, and he kept on saying that warning till we thought he would not stop.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your parents; Be honest; Worship only God; Do not give false witness

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us about the greatest of sins that we should avoid. These two sins are joining others in worship with Allah and being undutiful to one's parents. Joining others in worship with Allah means worshipping anyone or anything other than Him alone. Being undutiful to one's parents means not respecting them or not taking care of them when they need it most. The Prophet ﷺ also warned us against giving a false witness which is lying about something that you have seen or heard from someone else. We must always be truthful and honest when speaking about something so that we can maintain our integrity and trustworthiness among people around us.
