Jami at-Tirmidhi 951 (Book 9, Hadith 145) #26518
Washing the Dead According to Islamic Teachings

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad saw a man die while on a journey and instructed his companions to wash him with water and Sidr, shroud him in his garments, and not cover his head as he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment.

Ibn Abbas narrated: "We were with the Messenger of Allah on a journey when he saw a man fall from his camel, his neck was broken and he died, and he was a Muhrim. So the Messenger of Allah said: 'Wash him with water and Sidr, and shroud him in his garments, and do not cover his head. For indeed he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment saying the Talbiyah'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Wash dead bodies according to Islamic teachings before burying them

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas tells us that when the Prophet Muhammad was on a journey, he saw a man fall from his camel and die. He instructed those around him to wash the body with water and Sidr, shroud it in its garments, but not cover its head. This is because this person will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment saying the Talbiyah. This hadith teaches us that we should respect those who have passed away by washing them according to Islamic teachings before burying them. It also reminds us of our mortality as we are all going to face death one day and that we should always remember Allah's greatness so that when our time comes, we can say our Talbiyah with conviction.
