Sahih al-Bukhari 2782 (Book 56, Hadith 1) #2661
The Best Deeds According to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The best deed is to offer prayers at their fixed times, followed by being good and dutiful to parents, and then participating in Jihad in Allah's Cause.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Masud: I asked Allah's Messenger , "O Allah's Messenger ! What is the best deed?" He replied, "To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times". I asked, "What is next in goodness?" He replied, "To be good and dutiful to your parents". I further asked, what is next in goodness?" He replied, "To participate in Jihad in Allah's Cause". I did not ask Allah's Messenger anymore and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Masud explains the best deeds according to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He said that offering prayers at their early stated fixed times is the best deed. This means that Muslims should pray five times a day as prescribed in Islam. After this, he said that being good and dutiful to one’s parents is next in goodness. Parents are very important in Islam and it is essential for children to be kind and respectful towards them. Lastly, he said that participating in jihad for Allah’s cause is also a great deed. Jihad does not necessarily mean physical fighting but can also refer to striving hard for something or making an effort towards achieving something beneficial for oneself or others around them such as helping those who are less fortunate than us or working hard on our studies so we can get better grades etc..
