Sahih al-Bukhari 2816 (Book 56, Hadith 32) #2692
Compassion and Mercy in Times of Grief

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) showed compassion and mercy to the family of 'Amr when his mutilated body was brought to him, comforting them with the assurance that the angels were still shading him with their wings.

Narrated Jabir: My father's mutilated body was brought to the Prophet and was placed in front of him. I went to uncover his face but my companions forbade me. Then mourning cries of a lady were heard, and it was said that she was either the daughter or the sister of 'Amr. The Prophet said, "Why is she crying?" Or said, "Do not cry, for the angels are still shading him with their wings". (Al-Bukhari asked Sadqa, a sub-narrator, "Does the narration include the expression: 'Till he was lifted?' " The latter replied, "Jabir may have said it")

QUICK LESSONS:
Show compassion and mercy towards those who are grieving .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the compassion and mercy that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ showed towards those who were grieving. When Jabir's father's mutilated body was brought to him, he did not show any signs of distress or anger but instead asked why a woman was crying. He then comforted her by saying that angels were still shading his father with their wings. This hadith teaches us about how we should respond in times of grief; it is important for us to be compassionate and merciful towards those who are suffering, as this is what our beloved Prophet ﷺ did during such difficult times. We should also remember that Allah SWT will always be there for us no matter what happens, just like how He sent His angels to shade Jabir's father even after death.
