Sunan Ibn Majah 1843 (Book 8, Hadith 61) #31195
Striving for Good Deeds on the Day of Judgement

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Day of Judgement and how one should strive to do good deeds in order to be saved from the fire.

Adi bin Hatim narrated that: the Messenger of Allah said: "Each one of you will be spoken to by his lord, with no mediator between them. He will look in from of him and the fire will be facing him. He will look to his right and will not see anything but something that he had sent on before. He will look to his left and will not see anything but something that he had sent on before. Whoever among you can save himself in Fire, even with half a date, let him do so".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do righteous acts; strive towards goodness; work hard; stay away from wrongdoings

EXPLANATIONS:
On the Day of Judgement, each person will be judged by Allah without any mediator between them. They will look in front of them and see a fire that they must try to save themselves from. To their right and left they will only see what good deeds they have done in their life before this day. The Prophet Muhammad is advising us that we should strive to do as many good deeds as possible so that even if it's just half a date worth of goodness we can save ourselves from the fire on this day. We must remember that our actions now determine our fate later so it's important for us to always try our best to do what is right and stay away from wrongdoings.
