Following the Prophet's Example

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's reaction to the sound of a drum and how Ibn Umar followed his example.

It was narrated that Mujahid said: "I was with Ibn Umar, and he heard the sound of a drum, so he put his fingers in his ears and turned away. He did that three times, then he said: "This is what I saw the Messenger of Allah do'. "
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مَالِكٍ التَّمِيمِيِّ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتَ، طَبْلٍ فَأَدْخَلَ إِصْبَعَيْهِ فِي أُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى حَتَّى فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا فَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of following in the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad. It was narrated that Mujahid said he was with Ibn Umar when they heard a drum being played. Upon hearing it, Ibn Umar put his fingers in his ears and turned away three times. He then said that this is what he saw the Messenger of Allah do. This shows us that we should strive to follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet as much as possible. We should take note from his actions and try our best to emulate them in our own lives so that we can be closer to Allah SWT.
