Sunan Ibn Majah 1913 (Book 9, Hadith 69) #31265
Inviting Only the Rich to a Wedding Feast is Wrong

SUMMARY: It is wrong to invite only the rich to a wedding feast and not invite the poor.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The worst of food is food of a wedding feast to which the rich are invited and the poor are not. Whoever does not accept an invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger'. "

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your invitations for celebrations such as weddings.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that it is wrong to only invite the rich people and not include those who are less fortunate when hosting a wedding feast. Allah and His Messenger have commanded us not to do this as it shows inequality between people of different social classes. We should remember that all people are equal in front of Allah regardless of their wealth or status in society. Therefore, we should be generous with our invitations and make sure everyone has an opportunity to join in on celebrations such as weddings.
