Sunan Ibn Majah 1932 (Book 9, Hadith 88) #31284
Staying in a Happy Marriage

SUMMARY: The Prophet advised a woman to stay with her current husband and not return to her former husband, as long as she and her current husband are happy with each other.

It was narrated from 'Aishah: that the wife of Rifa'ah Al-Qurazi came to the Messenger of Allah and said: "I was married to Rifa'ah, and he divorced me and made it irrevocable. Then I married ' Abdur-Rahman bin Zubair, and what he has is like the fringe of a garment". The Prophet smiled and said: "Do you want to go back to Rifa'ah? No, not until you taste his ('Abdur-Rahman's) sweetness and he tastes your sweetness".

QUICK LESSONS:
Stay contented in your marriage even if you don't have much wealth or possessions; try understanding each other's feelings before considering divorce; take divorce seriously instead of taking it lightly or doing it out of haste; appreciate your partner's companionship no matter what their financial status may be .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of staying in a happy marriage. The Prophet was advising a woman who had been married to Rifa'ah Al-Qurazi, but then divorced him and married 'Abdur-Rahman bin Zubair. She said that what he has is like the fringe of a garment, meaning that he did not have much money or possessions. The Prophet smiled and told her not to go back to Rifa'ah until she tasted the sweetness of being with 'Abdur-Rahman and he tasted the sweetness of being with her. This teaches us that it is important for couples in marriage to be contented with each other's company, even if they do not have much wealth or possessions. It also shows us that divorce should only be considered when all else fails; it should never be taken lightly or done out of haste.
