Marriage and Slavery

SUMMARY: Marriage without the permission of a slave's master is considered fornication.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar: that the Messenger of Allah said : "If a slave gets married without his master's permission, he is a fornicator".
حَدَّثَنَا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ إِذَا تَزَوَّجَ الْعَبْدُ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ سَيِّدِهِ كَانَ عَاهِرًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that if a slave gets married without his master's permission, it is considered fornication. This means that even though slaves are not free to do as they please, they still need to get their master's approval before getting married. He was also teaching us about the importance of seeking permission from those in authority before taking any action.
