Sunan Ibn Majah 1963 (Book 9, Hadith 119) #31315
The Prohibition of Temporary Marriage

SUMMARY: Umar bin Khattab, the second caliph of Islam, warned people against entering into temporary marriages and threatened to stone anyone who did so unless they could provide four witnesses that the Prophet Muhammad had allowed it after forbidding it.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "When 'Umar bin Khattab was appointed caliph, he addressed the people and said: 'The Messenger of Allah permitted temporary marriage for us three times, then he forbade it. By Allah, If I hear of any married person entering a temporary marriage, I will stone him to death, unless he can bring me four witnesses who will testify that the Messenger of Allah, allowed it after he forbade it'".

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's commands , Follow teachings of Prophet Muhammad , Be just and fair .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of temporary marriage in Islam. Umar bin Khattab was appointed as the second caliph after Prophet Muhammad's death and he addressed his people warning them against entering into temporary marriages. He said that if he heard of anyone doing so, he would stone them to death unless they could bring him four witnesses who would testify that Prophet Muhammad had allowed it after forbidding it. This shows us how important following Allah's commands are in Islam and how serious a crime disobeying Him is considered to be. It also teaches us about justice and fairness as Umar bin Khattab was willing to accept evidence from four witnesses before punishing someone for breaking Allah's law.
