Sunan Ibn Majah 1996 (Book 9, Hadith 152) #31348
The Kinds of Protective Jealousy

SUMMARY: Allah loves protective jealousy when there is a valid reason for it, but hates it when there is no valid reason.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: the Messenger of Allah said: "There is a kind of protective jealousy that Allah loves and a kind that Allah hates. As for that which Allah loves, it is protective jealousy when there are grounds for suspicion. And as for that which He hates, it is protective jealousy when there are no grounds for suspicion".

It explains that Allah loves protective jealousy when there are grounds for suspicion, and He hates it when there are no grounds for suspicion. This hadith teaches us to be careful in our relationships with others and to be mindful of our actions so as not to cause harm or hurt feelings unnecessarily. We should also strive to protect ourselves from any potential harm or danger by being aware of our surroundings and taking precautions where necessary. At the same time, we should not be overly suspicious or jealous without any valid reasons as this can lead to unnecessary conflict and hurt feelings among people.
