EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who declared zihar upon his wife, which is when a husband compares his wife to a close relative that he cannot marry, such as his mother or sister. In this case, the Prophet Muhammad instructed that the husband should offer one expiation in order to make up for what he said. An expiation is an act of atonement or reparation for wrongs committed and can include things like fasting, charity work, and prayer. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful with our words and not say anything hurtful or offensive to our spouses because it can have serious consequences. We should also strive to make amends if we do say something wrong by offering an appropriate form of expiation.
