Sunan Ibn Majah 2097 (Book 11, Hadith 8) #31449
Seeking Refuge with Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Sa'd to not take an oath by Lat and Uzza, and instead recite the Islamic declaration of faith, followed by spitting three times to the left and seeking refuge with Allah.

It was narrated that Sa'd said: "I took an oath by Lat and Uzza. The Messenger of Allah said : 'Say: "La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu" (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, with no partner or associate)," then spit toward your left three times, and seek refuge with Allah, and do not do that again"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Recite Islamic Declaration Of Faith , Seek Refuge With Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a conversation between the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas. It is said that Sa'd took an oath by Lat and Uzza, two idols worshipped in pre-Islamic Arabia. In response, the Prophet Muhammad advised him to not do this again, but instead recite the Islamic declaration of faith which states “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone” followed by spitting three times towards his left side and seeking refuge with Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek refuge in God when faced with difficult situations or temptations as He is our only source of protection from evil forces. We should also strive to stay away from any form of idolatry or polytheism as it goes against Islam’s core beliefs.
