The Consequences of False Oaths

SUMMARY: Whoever lies about following a religion other than Islam will be held accountable for their words.

It was narrated that Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever takes an oath to follow a religion other than Islam, telling a deliberate lie, he will be as he said'."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ مَنْ حَلَفَ بِمِلَّةٍ سِوَى الإِسْلاَمِ كَاذِبًا مُتَعَمِّدًا فَهُوَ كَمَا قَالَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is teaching us that we should not take an oath to follow a religion other than Islam. Taking an oath is a serious matter and if someone takes an oath to follow another religion while knowing it is false, they will be held accountable for their words. We should always strive to tell the truth and not make false promises or statements. It is important to remember that Allah knows all and He will hold us accountable for our actions in this life and the hereafter.

This hadith also teaches us about accountability; we must always be mindful of our actions as Allah will judge us based on them. We must strive to do good deeds in order to receive His mercy and blessings in this life and the hereafter. Furthermore, it reminds us of the importance of being truthful; lying can have serious consequences so we should always strive to speak truthfully even when it may seem difficult or inconvenient at times.
