Avoiding Oaths

SUMMARY: Oaths should be avoided as they can lead to sin or regret.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that : the Messenger of Allah said: "An oath (leads to) either sin or regret".
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ بَشَّارِ بْنِ كِدَامٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ إِنَّمَا الْحَلِفُ حِنْثٌ أَوْ نَدَمٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that taking an oath can lead to either sin or regret. An oath is a promise made by someone in the name of Allah, and if it is broken, then it is considered a sin. Additionally, even if the oath is kept, one may still feel regret for having taken it in the first place. Therefore, we should avoid taking unnecessary oaths and only make promises that we are sure we can keep.
