QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for justice and fairness in our dealings with others
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about passing judgement in legal matters. It was narrated by Jabir that the Prophet passed judgement on the basis of an oath from the claimant and a single witness. An oath is when someone swears to tell the truth or to fulfill a promise. A witness is someone who can testify to something they have seen or heard. In this case, it was enough for one person to swear an oath and have one other person as a witness in order for justice to be served according to Islamic law. This teaches us that we should always strive for justice and fairness in our dealings with others, even if it requires only minimal evidence or proof.
