Sunan Ibn Majah 3295 (Book 29, Hadith 45) #32649
Eating with Etiquette

SUMMARY: Eating should be done in a manner that does not make others feel uncomfortable or embarrassed.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "When a meal is served, a man should not stand up until it is removed, and he should not take his hand away, even if he is full, until the people have finished. And let him continue eating.* For a man may make his companion shy, causing him to withhold his hand, and perhaps he has a need for the food".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain seated at the table until everyone has finished their meal; Continue eating even if you are full; Be considerate of other's needs while dining; Be polite while dining.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith emphasizes the importance of eating with etiquette and consideration for others. It is narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said, “When a meal is served, a man should not stand up until it is removed, and he should not take his hand away, even if he is full, until the people have finished.” This means that one should remain seated at the table until everyone has finished their meal and only then can they leave. Additionally, one must continue to eat even if they are full as taking away their hand may make their companion feel shy or embarrassed to continue eating when they may still need food. This hadith teaches us to be considerate of others while we are eating and to ensure that no one feels uncomfortable or embarrassed due to our actions.
