Eating and Drinking While Standing or Walking

SUMMARY: It is permissible to eat and drink while standing or walking.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "At the time of the Messenger of Allah we used to eat while walking, and drink while standing up".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو السَّائِبِ، سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ كُنَّا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ نَأْكُلُ وَنَحْنُ نَمْشِي وَنَشْرَبُ وَنَحْنُ قِيَامٌ

This hadith is about the permissibility of eating and drinking while standing or walking. The narrator, Ibn 'Umar, was a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who narrated this hadith. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible to eat and drink while standing or walking as long as it does not lead to any harm. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions in order to maintain good manners even when we are in a hurry. We should also be mindful of our environment when eating and drinking so that we do not cause any harm to others around us.
