The Blessing of Olive Oil

SUMMARY: Eating and anointing oneself with olive oil is blessed.

'Abdullah bin Sa’eed narrated that his grandfather said: "I heard Abu Hurairah say: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Eat (olive) oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it is blessed.’"
حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ كُلُوا الزَّيْتَ وَادَّهِنُوا بِهِ فَإِنَّهُ مُبَارَكٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the blessing of olive oil. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Saeed, who heard it from his grandfather, who in turn heard it from Abu Hurairah. The Prophet Muhammad said that eating and anointing oneself with olive oil is blessed. This means that it has a special kind of blessing or favor from Allah which can bring benefit to those who use it. Olive oil has many health benefits such as reducing inflammation and helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels in the body. It also helps to keep skin soft and supple when used as a moisturizer or massage oil.
