The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) visited the two sons of Busr, who were from the tribe of Sulaim. They placed a velvet cloth beneath him and sprinkled water on it for him to sit on. While in their house, Allah sent down revelation to Him. As a sign of hospitality, they offered Him butter and dates as refreshments; He liked butter more than dates. This hadith teaches us that we should always show hospitality to our guests by offering them food or drinks as a sign that we are welcoming them into our home with open arms.
