Sunan Ibn Majah 4175 (Book 37, Hadith 76) #33531
The Warning Against Pride and Greatness

SUMMARY: Allah warns against competing with Him in pride and greatness, as He is the only one who deserves these attributes.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah said: "Allah the Glorified, says: 'Pride is My cloak and greatness My robe, and whoever competes with Me with regard to either of them, I shall throw him into Hell".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remember your place in the universe; Respect God's authority; Acknowledge His superiority over all things; Avoid arrogance at all costs

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is a warning from Allah to not compete with Him in terms of pride and greatness. Pride is an excessive feeling of self-importance, while greatness refers to having a high status or power. Both of these qualities are exclusive to Allah alone, so it would be wrong for anyone else to try and compete with Him in this regard. If someone does attempt this, they will be thrown into Hell as punishment for their arrogance. This hadith teaches us that we should always remember that no matter how powerful or important we may feel, there will always be something greater than us - namely God Himself - so we should never forget our place in the grand scheme of things. It also serves as a reminder that arrogance can lead to dire consequences if left unchecked.
