The Adornment of Modesty

SUMMARY: Modesty and decency are essential qualities that can make a person or thing more attractive.

It was narrated from Anas that the Messenger of Allah said: "There is never any obscenity in a thing, but it mars it, and there is never any modesty in a thing, but it adorns it".
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْخَلاَّلُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَا كَانَ الْفُحْشُ فِي شَىْءٍ قَطُّ إِلاَّ شَانَهُ وَلاَ كَانَ الْحَيَاءُ فِي شَىْءٍ قَطُّ إِلاَّ زَانَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of modesty and decency in life. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik that the Prophet Muhammad said “There is never any obscenity in a thing, but it mars it, and there is never any modesty in a thing, but it adorns it”. This hadith teaches us that when we act with modesty and decency we can make ourselves or our things more attractive. We should always strive to be modest in our words and actions as this will bring us closer to Allah SWT. We should also remember that being immodest or indecent will have negative consequences on ourselves as well as those around us.
