Sahih al-Bukhari 3556 (Book 61, Hadith 65) #3397
Recognizing Happiness in the Prophet's Face

SUMMARY: Ka'b bin Malik was not able to join the Ghazwa of Tabuk, and when he greeted the Prophet (ﷺ) his face was glittering with happiness.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Ka'b: I heard Ka'b bin Malik talking after his failure to join (the Ghazwa of) Tabuk. He said, "When I greeted Allah's Messenger whose face was glittering with happiness, for whenever Allah's Messenger was happy, his face used to glitter, as if it was a piece of the moon, and we used to recognize it (ie his happiness) from his face".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be aware of your emotions and facial expressions; strive to be in a state of happiness; show respect for the prophet Muhammad ﷺ .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how Ka'b bin Malik noticed that whenever Allah's Messenger was happy his face would be as if it were a piece of the moon. He could recognize this from his face. This teaches us that we should always be aware of our emotions and how they affect our facial expressions. We should also strive to make sure that we are always in a state of happiness so that others can recognize it from our faces too. Additionally, this hadith shows us how much respect and reverence Muslims have for their beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ as they were able to recognize his emotions just by looking at him.
