Sahih al-Bukhari 3730 (Book 62, Hadith 77) #3560
Defending Leadership

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was defending Usama bin Zaid's leadership and reminded people that his father, Zaid, was also worthy of leadership and was one of the dearest persons to him.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: The Prophet sent an army under the command of Usama bin Zaid. When some people criticized his leadership, the Prophet said, "If you are criticizing Usama's leadership, you used to criticize his father's leadership before. By Allah! He was worthy of leadership and was one of the dearest persons to me, and (now) this (ie Usama) is one of the dearest to me after him (ie Zaid).

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect for authority figures, Be loyal towards leaders within Islamic boundaries

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of defending those in positions of leadership. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ sent an army under the command of Usama bin Zaid, but some people criticized his leadership. In response, the Prophet ﷺ reminded them that they had also criticized Usama's father's leadership before and that both were worthy leaders who were very dear to him. This hadith teaches us to be respectful towards those in positions of authority and not criticize them without cause or justification. It also reminds us to be loyal to our leaders even if we don't agree with their decisions or actions as long as they are within Islamic boundaries.
