Riyad as-Salihin 729 (Book 2, Hadith 3) #37218
The Power of Mentioning Allah's Name

SUMMARY: Mentioning the name of Allah upon entering a house or eating will ward off Satan and his followers.

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard Messenger of Allah saying, "If a person mentions the Name of Allah upon entering his house or eating, Satan says, addressing his followers: 'You will find no where to spend the night and no dinner'. But if he enters without mentioning the Name of Allah, Satan says (to his followers); 'You have found (a place) to spend the night in, and if he does not mention the Name of Allah at the time of eating, Satan says: 'You have found (a place) to spend the night in as well as food"'. Muslim.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of mentioning the name of Allah in our daily lives. Whenever we enter our homes or begin to eat a meal, we should remember to say "Bismillah" (in the name of God). Doing so will ward off any evil that may be lurking around us. It is believed that when we mention God's name before doing something, it serves as a reminder for us to stay on the right path and not give into temptation. Furthermore, this hadith also serves as a warning for us against Satan and his followers who are always looking for ways to lead people astray.
