Riyad as-Salihin 947 (Book 6, Hadith 54) #37436
The Importance of Staying Near the Grave

SUMMARY: After death, people should stay near the grave of the deceased until a camel is slaughtered and its meat is distributed.

'Amr bin Al-'as (May Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "When you have buried me, keep standing near my grave till (for the time it takes to) a camel is slaughtered and its meat is distributed, so that I may feel your nearness and know what to reply to the angels sent by my Rabb". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of staying near the grave after someone has passed away. 'Amr bin Al-'as was a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and he used to say that when he passes away, people should stay near his grave until a camel is slaughtered and its meat is distributed. This shows how important it was for him to feel their presence even after his death. It also shows that we should remember our loved ones who have passed away and show them respect by staying close to their graves for some time. Additionally, this hadith teaches us that we will be questioned by angels sent by Allah about our deeds in life so it's important for us to do good deeds while we are alive so that we can answer these questions confidently when they come.
