Riyad as-Salihin 979 (Book 7, Hadith 24) #37468
Mindful Invocation of Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of being mindful when calling out to Allah and not to be too loud or excessive.

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: We accompanied the Prophet in a journey, and when we climbed up a height, we proclaimed aloud: "La ilaha illallah (There is no true god except Allah)" and "Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest)". The Prophet admonished us saying, "O people, take it easy. He Whom you are calling is not deaf or absent. He is with you (ie, by His Knowledge), He is Hearing and He is Near". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of invoking Allah in a mindful manner. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was travelling with his companions and they began to call out loudly "La ilaha illallah" and "Allahu Akbar". The Prophet ﷺ then admonished them, reminding them that He whom they were calling was not deaf or absent, but rather He is with us by His Knowledge, Hearing and Near. This hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful when we are calling out to Allah as He is always near us and listening. We should not be too loud or excessive in our invocation as it can lead to disrespecting Him.
