Riyad as-Salihin 997 (Book 8, Hadith 7) #37486
Envy Justified in Two Cases

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) said that envy is only justified in two cases, when a person has knowledge of the Qur'an and recites it regularly, or when a person has wealth and spends it regularly.

Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet said: "Envy is justified in regard to two types of persons only: a man whom Allah has given knowledge of the Qur'an, and so he recites it during the night and during the day; and a man whom Allah has given wealth and so he spends from it during the night and during the day". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Recite Quran Regularly , Spend Wealth Regularly

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaches us that envy is only justified in two cases. The first case is when someone has been given knowledge of the Qur’an by Allah and they recite it during both day and night. The second case is when someone has been given wealth by Allah and they spend from it during both day and night. This hadith teaches us to be content with what we have been blessed with by Allah, whether that be knowledge or wealth. We should not feel envious of others who may have more than us because everyone will receive their due reward from Allah for their efforts. We should also strive to use our blessings wisely so that we can benefit ourselves as well as those around us on a daily basis.
