Seeking Refuge in Allah

SUMMARY: Seeking refuge in Allah from the torment of Hell, the torment of the grave, trials of life and death, and mischief of Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal (Antichrist).

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "When anyone of you has done his Tashahhud during Salat (prayer), he should seek refuge in Allah against four things and say: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi jahannam, wa min 'adhabil-qabr, wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat, wa min sharri fitnatil-masihid-dajjal (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the mischief of Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal (Antichrist)". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about seeking refuge in God from four things; the torment of hell, the torment of grave, trials of life and death, and mischief caused by Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal or Antichrist. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek protection from these four things when we are done with our prayer. We should say “Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi jahannam, wa min 'adhabil-qabr, wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat, wa min sharri fitnatil-masihid dajjal” which translates to “O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hellfire ,from the torment of grave ,from trials that come with life & death ,and from mischief caused by Al Masih Ad Dajja”. This hadith teaches us that we should always turn to God for protection against all kinds of harm or danger that may come our way. It also reminds us to be mindful about our faith as it is easy for us to get distracted by worldly matters or even fall into disbelief if we are not careful enough.
