Riyad as-Salihin 1499 (Book 16, Hadith 35) #37988
The Power of Patience in Supplication

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that supplications will be granted if one does not become impatient and give up supplication.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah , "The supplication of every one of you will be granted if he does not get impatient and say (for example): 'I supplicated my Rabb but my prayer has not been granted'". Al-Bukhari and Muslim. The narration of Muslim is: "The supplication of a slave continues to be granted as long as he does not supplicate for a sinful thing or for something that would cut off the ties of kinship and he does not grow impatient". It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! What does growing impatient mean?" He said, "It is one's saying: 'I supplicated again and again but I do not think that my prayer will be answered'. Then he becomes frustrated (in such circumstances) and gives up supplication altogether".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faith in God's timing, Remain patient while making a supplication/prayer, Do not ask for anything sinful or anything which would break family ties

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of patience when making a supplication or prayer to Allah. It is important to remember that Allah answers all prayers but sometimes it may take time for the answer to come. If we become impatient and give up on our prayer then it will not be answered. We must have faith that Allah will answer our prayers in His own time and remain patient while waiting for the response. The Prophet Muhammad also taught us that we should never ask for something sinful or something which would break family ties as these requests will not be granted by Allah.
