Riyad as-Salihin 1514 (Book 17, Hadith 4) #38003
The Consequences of Careless Words

SUMMARY: We should be mindful of our words and think before we speak, as careless words can lead to dire consequences.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Prophet saying, "A person utters a word thoughtlessly (ie, without thinking about its being good or not) and, as a result of this, he will fall down into the fire of Hell deeper than the distance between the east and the west". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think before you speak; Make sure your words are beneficial or at least not harmful; Be mindful and accountable for your actions including your speech

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is a warning from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about the consequences of speaking without thinking. He said that if someone speaks carelessly, they will fall into the fire of hell deeper than the distance between east and west. This means that their punishment will be very severe for their careless words. We should always think before we speak and make sure that what we say is beneficial or at least not harmful to others. We must also remember that Allah is watching us and will hold us accountable for our actions, including our speech.
