EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the consequences of backbiting, which is a form of gossiping or speaking ill behind someone's back. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik that during the Night of Ascension, Prophet Muhammad saw a group of people who were scratching their chests and faces with copper nails. When he asked Jibril who these people were, he replied that they were those who ate flesh from others by backbiting and trampled people's honour. This hadith serves as a warning to us against engaging in this sin as it can lead to humiliation in this world and punishment in the hereafter. We should strive to protect our tongues from speaking ill about others and instead focus on building each other up with kind words.
