The Perils of False Information

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to spread false information about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Samurah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "He who relates from me something which he deems false is one of the liars". Muslim
وعن سمرة رضي الله عنه قال‏:‏ قال رسول الله ‏:‏ ‏ "‏من حدث عني بحديث يرى أنه كذب، فهو أحد الكاذبين‏"‏ ‏(‏‏(‏رواه مسلم‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏
