Riyad as-Salihin 1836 (Book 18, Hadith 29) #38325
Resurrection and Reconstruction

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) said that between the two Blowing of the Trumpet there will be an interval of forty, and that everything of the human body will perish except for the last coccyx bone, from which Allah will reconstruct the whole body.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet said, "Between the two Blowing of the Trumpet there will be an interval of forty". The people said, "O Abu Hurairah! Do you mean forty days?" He said, "I cannot say anything". They said, "Do you mean forty years?" He said, "I cannot say anything". They said, "Do you mean forty months?" He said, "I cannot say anything. The Prophet added: 'Everything of the human body will perish except the last coccyx bone (end part of the spinal cord), and from that bone Allah will reconstruct the whole body. Then Allah will send down water from the sky and people will grow like green vegetables'". Al- Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about resurrection and reconstruction. It tells us that between two blowing of a trumpet, there is an interval of forty. After this interval, everything in our bodies will perish except for our coccyx bone. From this bone, Allah will reconstruct our entire body again. Then He will send down water from the sky so people can grow like green vegetables again. This hadith teaches us to have faith in Allah’s power to resurrect us after death and recreate us as we were before. It also teaches us to have patience when we don’t know something because even Abu Hurairah couldn’t answer how long this interval was going to be; only Allah knows these things!
