Riyad as-Salihin 1864 (Book 18, Hadith 57) #38353
Rewards for Killing Chameleons

SUMMARY: Killing a chameleon with the first blow will be rewarded with a hundred good deeds, and lesser rewards for killing it at the second or third blow.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah said, "He who kills a chameleon at the first blow, such and such number of good deeds will be awarded to him; whoever kills it at the second blow, such and such number of merits will be recorded for him. And if he kills it at the third blow, he will get such and such merits". Another narration is: The Messenger of Allah said, "If anyone kills a chameleon with the first blow, a hundred good deeds will be recorded for him; less than that will be recorded for him if he kills it at the second blow, and still less rewards will be recorded for him if he kills it at the third blow". Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Kill chamelons with patience and kindness; strive to do your best; persevere when dealing with difficult tasks; reap rewards from small acts of kindness.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how one can receive rewards from Allah by killing a chameleon. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if someone kills a chameleon in one blow, they will receive 100 good deeds as reward. If they kill it in two blows, they will receive less than 100 good deeds as reward and if they kill it in three blows, they will still receive some reward but less than what was given for two blows. This hadith teaches us that even small acts of kindness can be rewarded by Allah and we should strive to do our best to perform these acts of kindness so that we may reap the rewards from them. It also teaches us to have patience when dealing with difficult tasks because even if we don't succeed at first try, there is still hope of success and reward from Allah if we keep trying.
