Seeking Forgiveness for Sins

SUMMARY: Seeking forgiveness from Allah will lead to the forgiveness of sins, even if one has run away from the battlefield.

Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah said, "He who says: 'Astaghfir ullah-alladhi la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayyumu, wa atubu ilaihi (I seek the forgiveness of Allah, there is no true god except Allah, the Ever-Living, the Self- Subsisting, and I turn to Him in repentance),' his sins will be forgiven even if he should have run away from the battlefield (while he was engaged in fighting for the Cause of Allah)". Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi and Al-Hakim (on conditions of Al-Bukhari and Muslim for accepting Hadith).

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek repentance and ask for God's mercy when you make mistakes or do something wrong .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about seeking forgiveness from Allah and how it can lead to the forgiveness of sins. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if someone says “Astaghfir ullah-alladhi la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayyumu, wa atubu ilaihi” which translates to “I seek the forgiveness of Allah, there is no true god except Allah, the Ever-Living, the Self Subsisting and I turn to Him in repentance” then their sins will be forgiven even if they have run away from a battle. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek repentance and ask for forgiveness when we make mistakes or do something wrong. It also shows us that no matter what we have done in our past, if we sincerely repent and ask for God's mercy then He will forgive us. We should never give up hope or think that our mistakes are too big for God's mercy because He is always willing to forgive us when we turn back to Him with sincerity.
