Intention Rewarded, Action Entitled

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a man who set aside some money for charity and gave it to someone in the mosque. His son took back the money, and when they went to the Prophet (ﷺ) he said that his father was rewarded for his intention and that his son was entitled to what he had taken.

Ma'n bin Yazid bin Akhnas (May Allah be pleased with them) (he, his father and his grandfather, all were Companions) reported: My father set aside some dinars for charity and gave them to a man in the mosque. I went to that man and took back those dinars. He said: "I had not intended you to be given". So we went to Messenger of Allah , and put forth the matter before him. He said to my father, "Yazid, you have been rewarded for what you intended". And he said to me, "Ma'n, you are entitled to what you have taken". Al- Bukhari.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have good intentions ; Be generous with charity ; Respect other people's property ; Follow guidance given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man named Ma'n bin Yazid bin Akhnas who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. His father set aside some dinars for charity and gave them to someone in the mosque. Ma'n then took back those dinars without permission from either of them. They both went to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ seeking advice on what should be done in this situation. The Prophet ﷺ said that even though Ma'n's father did not intend for him to have those dinars, he would still be rewarded by Allah SWT for having good intentions of giving charity in the first place. He also said that since Ma'n had taken those dinars without permission, he was entitled to keep them as well. This hadith teaches us an important lesson which is that our intentions are always more important than our actions because Allah SWT will reward us based on our intentions even if we do not get any tangible rewards from it here on earth. It also teaches us another lesson which is that we should always seek permission before taking something from someone else even if it seems like something small or insignificant at first glance because it could lead to bigger problems down the line if we don't do so properly.
