The Joy of Repentance

SUMMARY: Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than a person who unexpectedly finds his lost camel.

Anas bin Malik Al-Ansari (MayAllah be pleased with him) the servant of the Messenger of Allah narrated: Messenger of Allah said, "Verily, Allah is more delighted with the repentance of His slave than a person who lost his camel in a desert land and then finds it (unexpectedly)". Al-Bukhari and Muslim. In another version of Muslim, he said: "Verily, Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than a person who has his camel in a waterless desert carrying his provision of food and drink and it is lost. He, having lost all hopes (to get that back), lies down in shade and is disappointed about his camel; when all of a sudden he finds that camel standing before him. He takes hold of its reins and then out of boundless joy blurts out: 'O Allah, You are my slave and I am Your Rab.He commits this mistake out of extreme joy".

QUICK LESSONS:
Turn back to Allah in sincere repentance
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the joy that comes from repenting to Allah. It compares this joy to that of a person who has lost their camel in a desert and then finds it unexpectedly. This comparison shows how much pleasure and delight Allah takes in His slaves when they turn back to Him in repentance. It also highlights how merciful and forgiving He is, as He will always accept our repentance no matter what we have done or how long it has been since we last repented. The hadith also teaches us that even if we make mistakes out of extreme joy, such as mistakenly calling ourselves slaves of Allah, He will still forgive us for our mistake if we sincerely repent for it.
