The Insatiable Desire of Man and Repentance to Allah

SUMMARY: No matter how much wealth a person has, it will not be enough to satisfy them and they should turn to Allah in repentance for mercy.

Ibn 'Abbas and Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "If a son of Adam were to own a valley full of gold, he would desire to have two. Nothing can fill his mouth except the earth (of the grave). Allah turns with mercy to him who turns to Him in repentance". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Turn towards Allah in repentance .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the insatiable desire of man, no matter how much wealth he accumulates, it will never be enough for him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that the only thing that can fill a person’s mouth is the earth from their grave. He also taught that Allah turns with mercy to those who turn to Him in repentance. This hadith teaches us that we should not become too attached or obsessed with material possessions as they are temporary and will not bring us true satisfaction or contentment in life. Instead, we should focus on turning towards Allah in repentance so we can receive His mercy and blessings which are everlasting.
