Riyad as-Salihin 156 (Book) #38541
Following Commands of Prophet (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: This hadith is a warning to not ask unnecessary questions and to follow the commands of the Prophet (ﷺ) to the best of one's ability.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet said, "Do not ask me unnecessarily about the details of the things which I do not mention to you. Verily, the people before you were doomed because they were used to putting many questions to their Prophets and had differences about their Prophets. Refrain from what I forbid you and do what I command you to the best of your ability and capacity". Al-Bukhari and Muslim

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against asking unnecessary questions about things that have not been mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ. It also reminds us that people before us were doomed because they asked too many questions and argued about their prophets. We should refrain from what has been forbidden by the Prophet ﷺ and do our best to follow his commands. Doing so will help protect us from being punished like those who came before us.
