The Significance of Eating with the Right Hand

SUMMARY: Eating with the right hand is a sign of humility and pride should be avoided.

Salamah bin Al-Akwa' (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: My father said that a person ate in the presence of Messenger of Allah with his left hand. He said, "Eat with your right hand". He said, "I cannot do that". Thereupon he (the Prophet) said, "May you never do that". It was pride that prevented him from doing it. And he could not raise it (the right hand) up to his mouth afterwards. Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Eat with your right hand out of respect for others
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Salamah bin Al-Akwa', speaks to the importance of eating with one's right hand. It is seen as a sign of humility and respect, while eating with one's left hand is seen as a sign of pride. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was so adamant about this that he cursed someone who refused to eat with his right hand. This hadith serves as an important reminder for us to stay humble in all aspects of our lives, including when we are eating. We should strive to avoid any form of pride or arrogance in our actions and words, and instead focus on being humble and respectful towards others at all times.
