Saving Others from the Fire

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) is comparing himself to a man who lit a fire and is trying to save the moths and grasshoppers from it, but they keep jumping in.

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "My parable and that of yours is like a man who kindled a fire. When it has illuminated all around him, the moths and grasshoppers began to fall therein. He tried to push them away, but they overcame him and jumped into it. I am catching hold of your waists ties (to save you) from fire, but you slip away from my hands". Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive hard for righteousness; Guide others towards righteousness; Have patience when guiding others towards righteousness ; Trust Allah's plan .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ compares himself to a man who lit a fire. The fire illuminated all around him and attracted moths and grasshoppers which began to jump into it. Similarly, the Prophet ﷺ was trying his best to save people from the fires of Hell by teaching them about Islam but they kept slipping away from his hands. This hadith teaches us that we should strive hard in our efforts of guiding others towards righteousness as much as we can so that they may be saved from eternal punishment in Hellfire. We should also remember that ultimately only Allah knows what will happen with each person's fate so we must not despair if our efforts are not successful.
