Striving for Faith

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of following the teachings of a Prophet and how striving against those who do not follow them with one's hand, heart or tongue is an act of faith.

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "Never a Prophet had been sent before me by Allah to his people but he had, among his people, (his) disciples and companions, who followed his ways and obeyed his command. Then there came after them their successors who proclaimed what they did not practise, and practised what they were not commanded to do. And (he) who strove against them with his hand is a believer; he who strove against them with his heart is a believer; and he who strove against them with his tongue is a believer ; and beyond that there is no grain of Faith". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of following the teachings of a Prophet. It explains that those who come after a prophet may proclaim what they do not practice and practice what they were not commanded to do. To strive against these people with one's hand, heart or tongue is an act of faith. This means that it is important to stand up for what we believe in and speak out against injustice even if it means going against popular opinion. It also teaches us that we should be careful when choosing our role models as their actions should reflect their words.
