The Severe Punishment of Allah

SUMMARY: Allah gives people a chance to repent for their wrongdoings, but if they do not, He will punish them severely.

Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "Verily, Allah gives respite to the oppressor. But when He seizes him, He does not let him escape". Then he ) recited, "Such is the Seizure of your Rabb when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful (and) severe". (11:102). Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
وعن أبي موسى رضي الله عنه قال‏:‏ قال رسول الله ‏:‏ “إن الله ليملي للظالم فإذا أخذه لم يفلته ثم قرأ‏:‏ ‏{‏وكذلك أخذ ربك إذا أخذ القرى وهي ظالمة إن أخذه أليم شديد‏}‏ ‏(‏‏(‏هود ‏:‏ 102‏)‏‏)‏ ‏(‏‏(‏متفق عليه‏)‏‏)‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the mercy and justice of Allah. It teaches us that even though Allah is merciful and forgiving, He will still punish those who do wrong. People are given a chance to repent for their sins before they are punished by Him. If they don't take advantage of this opportunity, then His punishment will be severe and painful. This hadith also reminds us that we should always strive to do good deeds so that we can avoid the wrath of God.
