Inviolability of Life, Property & Honour

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the inviolability of life, property and honour. It also emphasizes the importance of conveying messages to others and not to turn away from faith by killing each other.

Abu Bakrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet said, "Time has completed its cycle and has come to the state of the day when Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year consists of twelve months of which four are inviolable; three of them consecutive - Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram and Rajab, the month of Mudar (tribe), which comes between Jumada and Sha'ban. What month is this?" We said, "Allah and His Messenger know better". The Prophet remained silent for some time until we thought that he would give it a name other than its real name. Then asked, "Is it not (the month of) Dhul-Hijjah?". We replied in the affirmative. He asked, "Which city is this?". We replied: "Allah and His Messenger know better". He remained silent until we thought that he would give it another name. He asked, "Is it not Al-Baldah (Makkah)?" We said: "Yes". He asked, "What day is this?". We said: "Allah and His Messenger know better". He remained silent until we thought that he would give it another name. He asked, "Is it not the day of An-Nahr (the sacrifice)?". We replied in the affirmative. Thereupon he said, "Your blood, your property and your honour are inviolable to you all like the inviolablity of this day of yours, in this city of yours and in this month of yours. You will soon meet your Rabb and He will ask you about your deeds. So do not turn to disbelief after me by striking the necks of one another. Behold! Let him who is present here convey (this message ) to him who is absent; for many a person to whom a message is conveyed has more retentive memory than the one who hears it". He again said, "Have I conveyed the message to you? Behold! Have I conveyed the Commandments (of Allah) to you". We submitted: "Yes". He then said, "O Allah, bear witness (to this)". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect for life ,property & honor ; Convey messages accurately ; Be aware & take action against wrongdoing ; Follow Islamic teachings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Abu Bakrah and it talks about the inviolability of life, property and honour. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asked his companions what month it was, what city they were in and what day it was. When they replied that it was Dhul Hijjah in Makkah on the day of An Nahr he said that their lives, properties and honours were as sacred as this day in this city in this month. He then went on to say that everyone should convey this message to those who are absent so that they may remember better than those who heard it directly from him. He concluded by asking Allah to bear witness to his words.

This hadith teaches us many important values such as respect for life, property and honour which are all sacred things given by Allah SWT himself; we must never take them away from anyone else or ourselves without a valid reason according to Islamic teachings. We must also be mindful when conveying messages so that we do not forget any important details or facts which could lead us astray from our faith if we do not remember them correctly or accurately enough. Finally, we must always be aware of our surroundings so that we can identify when something is wrong or out of place; if something does seem wrong then we should take action immediately instead of waiting until later when more damage may have been done already due to our inaction earlier on!
